Train-the-Trainer Proactive Mental Health Training for Health and Wellness Coaches: A Systems-Based Extension of Coaching Practice

Most mental health support is reactive — focused on crisis response and treatment after problems arise. Yet coaches are uniquely positioned to do something far more impactful: help individuals, teams, and organizations create the daily conditions that prevent crises and promote genuine well-being. Proactive Mental Health train-the-trainer courses provide you with the tools, materials, and confidence to do just that — while also opening a powerful pathway to grow your coaching practice. As you deliver training within organizations, you naturally build relationships with participants who experience your expertise firsthand. Many of those participants become ideal candidates for ongoing one-on-one coaching, allowing you to expand your client base.

What You'll Be Equipped to Do

Five two-hour courses expand your practice beyond one-on-one coaching into group, team, and organizational settings. You will learn to assess and influence the environments where people live and work — creating cultures that support well-being, resilience, and performance from the ground up. Each course stands alone and can be taken individually, in any combination, or as part of a complete series. Each course provides two NBHWC continuing education credits, and coaches who complete all five courses earn a Proactive Mental Health ChampionSM  Certification.

Choose the Courses That Fit Your Practice

Each course is a complete, standalone unit that covers a specific area of proactive mental health. You can start with the topic most relevant to your current clients, gradually work toward full certification, or choose the courses that best complement your existing focus areas. There is no required order.

  1. I Flourish: Achieving Personal Proactive Mental Health. Strengthen the daily attitudes and behaviors that build resilience, adaptability, and sustained well-being — for yourself and for those you coach. A strong starting point for coaches looking to deepen individual-level work with clients.
  2. Better Together: Peer Support Skills for Proactive Mental Health. Equip individuals to effectively support the mental health and growth of those around them, building stronger interpersonal networks within teams and communities. Especially valuable for coaches working with teams or community groups.
  3. We Flourish: Leadership Support for Proactive Mental Health. Prepare leaders to model, reinforce, and embed proactive mental health into everyday organizational practices—ideal for coaches who work with managers, executives, or leadership development programs.
  4. Cultivating Connections: Creating a Healthy and Productive Social Climate Assess and improve the dimensions of social climate — sense of community, shared vision, and positive outlook — that determine whether people truly thrive at work and in life. A natural fit for coaches engaged in organizational or community settings.
  5. Making the Case: Establishing the Why, Historic Roots, and How of Proactive Mental Health. Build the knowledge and confidence to promote proactive mental health within organizations as a consultant, trainer, and culture developer. This course provides a structured approach to leading workshops, building culture, attracting new clients, and positioning yourself as a trusted partner to organizations—opening opportunities for group engagement, consulting, and individual coaching. Valuable on its own and especially effective when combined with the skills from other courses.
